I think when the author says, “...my strength kind of fell as I felt how hard the world was going to be to me hereafter” is that after he quit a job where he was being employed by a family friend, he knows his parents are going to kill him. He felt good about quitting and he felt big and “strong”, until he realized what he done and that he couldn’t change his mind because it was to late, and realized how hard life would be thereafter.
